Yes, you have to set the parking disc when parking in Esbjerg. 

When using the parking disc, you can park free of charge for two hours in the municipal car parks on the map. Set the pointer on the parking disc to indicate your
time of arrival.

• Weekdays ........... 8am to 6pm
• Saturdays ............ 8am to 2pm

Sundays and bank holidays are free of charge.

After two hours you have to pay for parking in the center of Esbjerg, however prices vary depending on how you register your parking. If you register  using a parking ticket machine, the price is DKK 12 per hour within the following time period:

• Weekdays ........... 8am to 6pm
• Saturdays ............ 8am to 2pm

Sundays and bank holidays are free of charge.

Residents can apply for a residential parking permit which costs DKK 400 and is valid for one specific vehicle for two years.

How to

1. Park your car.
2. Set the pointer on the parking disc to indicate your time of arrival.
3. After two hours, you must register your parking via app or parking ticket machine. At the parking ticket machine, you can pay using debit cards or the Danish app MobilePay.

The parking period begins when you register your parking via parking ticket machine or app. Please note that by registering before the expiration of the two hours free of charge
you forfeit any remaining time.

You can pay by parking ticket machine or app. Please note that the parking ticket machines do not accept cash. 

How to pay

1. Select either the app or the parking ticket machine
2. Enter your vehicle registration number
3. Select the desired parking period

The price is calculated, and the amount reserved in your bank account. On the expiry of the selected time your bank account is debited.

The parking ticket machines accept the following payment cards:  

1. Dankort
2. Visa/Visa Electron/V PAY, MasterCard/Maestro, JCB, UnionPay, Diners/Discover
3. American Express

You can use the following parking apps to pay for your parking:

You can extend your parking by buying more time. You can extend your parking as many times as needed via the app or at the parking ticket machine. Just keep using the same system, which you used to register your parking.

If you pay by debit card or via an app, you can stop the payment if you leave the car park earlier than expected. You do not have that option with MobilePay.

The following vehicles do not have to set the parking disc or pay for parking: 

1. Vehicles registered with a residential parking permit
2. Vehicles with a parking card for the disabled
3. Electric vehicles (NOT hybrid)
4. Hydrogen vehicles
5. Electric motorcycles

If you live en the paid parking zone or in the residential parking zones in Esbjerg or Ribe, you can apply for a residential parking permit. The resident or a member of the household must be registered as the owner or user of the vehicle for which a parking permit is applied for. 

Only vehicles of up to 3,500 kg may apply for a residential parking permit. 

Time restrictions and the possibility to purchase extra parking time only applies to parking on the road side or in municipally owned car parks (signposted with a blue P-sign). Car parks that are not owned by Esbjerg municipality have their own rules, which appear from local signage (sign with black P-sign).

Please not that Stormgade, Nørregade, Jernbanegade and Østre Havnevej are not included in the paid parking zone as opposed to Havnegade which is part of the zone. At the red markings special rules apply. 

• In Torvegade, between Nørregade and Skolegade
• Banegårdspladsen, the southern row of parking spaces. 
• In Englandsgade, from Borgergade to Havnegade - only on the western side of the road marked with red on the map. 

In the above mentioned areas the following rules apply: 

• A 30 minute time restriction on parking.
• You cannot extend your parking time. 
• No exemptions for residential parking permits, electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles or electric motorcycles. 

The special rules apply in order to ensure that more visitors have the opportunity to park in the places in question during shorter visits to shops etc.
